CLOSING CHAPTERS

Yesterday was my last day at a place I spent almost three years at. I leave behind people that have become like family and a place that I truly care for. It is a bittersweet moment, but I am excited for this new chapter in my life. This choice wasn't made easy but it was a necessary step that was needed. I learned more in those years than I think I have the 20 other years I was alive. I have had some of my best and worst memories there. I was able to even have the pleasure of working with my best friend. I had a great boss that then turned into a mentor. Nevertheless I could go on and on about what the place and people mean to me, but this is about the ending of an era for me.

It is always hard to start fresh at a new place, but don't let that be the reason that you stay stuck at your current job. If you aren't happy, being fulfilled, passionate about the work, and/or being challenged it is okay to look around and see what's out there. You have to think about what is best for you personally and professionally. Although you may love the people and/or memories at the job .. you will ultimately know when it's time to make a leap into a new direction. You might try to stop the thoughts but at the end of the day you will know when it's time for something new. If you love your job, but not necessarily your role anymore look and see if there is hiring potential within the company in a different department or higher level.

Also, don't think too much about what others will say. Every one will have an opinion but yours is the only one that truly matters. It may be hard to drown out what others are saying (especially if they bring up valid points/questions) but make your voice the loudest because it's the most important. You are the person who will have to deal with all the new changes, not anyone else. You have to make yourself a priority if you don't already. You owe it to yourself become everything you've dreamed of being. It is important to take the steps into making your dreams a reality even if it makes you a little scared.

I would be lying to you if I said I wasn't nervous - I am scared shitless for my next step, but I am so beyond excited for a new start. I am ready for endless possibilities, new memories, new skills and challenges, and just overall new experiences. Who knows where this adventure will take me. That is the statement that energizes me when I get nervous. What energizes you now a days? Whatever it is, follow that.
